20 Things to do with a Word Processor is a valuable resource for English teachers taking on the rigours of ICT. Each activity (cross-referenced to the National Curriculum) is described clearly and without jargon and is followed by a photocopiable page for pupils (click here for sample pages). All the files used in the book can be found on the accompanying CD. Activities include work in a wide range of genres including persuasive, instructional and discursive writing. It has useful items on language work at sentence level, assessing non-fiction texts and investigating literary texts. At all stages, the authors' understanding of the real needs and purposes of English teaching are apparent. This is not a book which recommends ICT for the sake of it but only where it can enhance learning. The authors Trevor Millum and Chris Warren are both ex-teachers of English and are well-known for their lively presentations at conferences and INSET courses.
