The ICT for Education evaluation

. . . With Albert's Paintbox, Resource Education have aimed to produce a paint program for very young children that can actually produce worthwhile results . . . There are quite a lot of tools offered by the program, but it cleverly restricts the number of these that are shown at once . . . The complicated Windows colour picker is replaced by a beautifully simple alternative which simply presents 10 shades of the basic colour your choice . . .

The schoolzone evaluation

Albert's Paintbox is an exciting program, which promises to provide a simple toolbox which the children can access to explore a variety of learning opportunities - initially by clicking the buttons to see what happens.

The program is useful to introduce IT concepts in a child-friendly way. There are six buttons, at the bottom of the screen, which are an initial introduction to the tools and techniques that Albert offers. The configurations can be edited to suit a particular activity or an individual’s needs.

Facilities include the use of paint, colours, pattern, shape and stamps. In addition to this there is a speech/sound and a save/print feature.

This resource should be ideal to reinforce the language of art and the mathematical properties of shape and symmetry. The 'stamp' facility is already proving very popular for the children to create their own unique design to save and use again on any on-going or new piece of work.

A discussion took place, with the children, to talk about how we can utilize Albert's Paintbox during our class activities. As far as the pupils were concerned the only limit to using this program will be their imagination!

The content of the product relates across the curriculum: PSE , language and KUW ' and can be adapted when necessary.

This new program has great potential - and I do not doubt that Albert’s Painbox will be tested and stretched without mercy!
