Turns the Main control bar on and off. All the commands on the panel can also be implemented by keystrokes.

N

Turn on to the next page, if available
 

P

Turn back to the previous page, if available
 

R/S

Read all text on the page in the currently selected version. Press S to stop.
 

E

Switch between Modern and Middle English
 

ESC

Close any window (including this one) and returns to the Pilgrim Portraits list

Opens and closes the Configurations editor:

Use the Configurations editor to set the way the Pilgrim Portraits will will be shown on launch. Indicated keystrokes can be used to temporarily change settings, but changes will always revert to the Configuration settings on launch.

E

Specify the version of English used on launch. You can switch between the two using the E key.

Start in Chaucerian English/
Start in Modern English

Longer Pilgrim Portraits have been split over two or more screen pages. This setting puts the whole Portrait on a single page.

Portrait on one page

Turning this on will enable a clicked section to be read first in the displayed version and then in the other.

Read both versions

Reading will begin with the clicked section and continue to the end of the page or until the S key is pressed.

L

The first line of each of the sections is the position of that line in the complete Prologue. Line numbers can be temporarily turned on or off with the L key.

The Main control bar can be temporarily turned on or off with the M key.

Size one is suitable for personal study, size five for whiteboard use.
