Configuration
The Jumble Fun programs can be set up in a number of different ways. On the title page press CONTROL + F2.
There are three Configuration panels: General, Switches and Rewards.
General
Buttons in game
When this is highlighted, the ‘Move on‘, ‘Move back‘ and ‘Picture preview‘ buttons appear in the upper left portion of the screen.
Sound
Switches the sound on and off.
Full screen
The default size for the display is 800 x 600 pixels. The Full screen option will automatically switch your monitor to this resolution so that the pictures fill the screen. The original resolution will be restored at the end of the program.
If you have a larger monitor displaying more that 800 x 600 pixels, but wish to keep the pictures small, you may optionally mask the desktop by turning the border on.
Use pictures from this folder
Users may put their own pictures into Jumble Fun. A variety of formats are supported, including BMP, JPEG and WMF. Ideally, pictures will be 400 x 300 pixels or any size in 4:3 proportion. Pictures not at these sizes will be scaled to fit.
For best results, use Scaler & Croppitt from Resource Education. This program lets you select just the part of a picture that you want to use, and then reduces your chosen sample to 400 x 300 for a perfect fit.
To keep things simple, we suggest that you copy the pictures you wish to use into your My Pictures or My Documents folder.
The animated pictures supplied with the program are not available while this option is set, but you can use an electronic voice to read the file names: see Rewards below.
Animation speed
The pictures supplied by RESOURCE animate when the picture is completed. This slider governs the speed of the animation.
Horizontal pieces, Vertical pieces, Missing pieces
These set the number of horizontal and vertical pieces that make up the picture and the number of pieces to be placed. The minimum in any setting is two and the maximum seven.
The number of missing pieces can be set from one to seven, although this will automatically adjust if you select too few pieces to place.
Computer choice/Free choice
The software decides where the next piece should be placed or the user chooses the position.
Place anywhere
Provided the jigsaw pieces fit, parts remain where they are placed. With this option on, misplaced pieces can be returned by the user to the bottom of the screen. This option is unavailable under switch control.
Switches
None sets the mouse as the controlling device. If you wish to use a switch instead of the mouse or a touch-sensitive monitor, select one of the switch options here.
By default, a single switch is mapped to the SPACE BAR and two switches to the SPACE BAR and ENTER. You can change these settings to match your standard switch mapping by clicking in the appropriate boxes and pressing a key.
You can also vary the speed of scanning for switch use with the slider bar.
If your switch driver has built-in tremour de-bounce, we suggest that you set out control to Off.
Underline pieces/Outline pieces
These are the two options for highlighting the piece for placing.
Reward
The Reward tab is only shown if you use your own pictures (see Use pictures from this folder above).
If Show “Well done” is selected, these are the words that will appear underneath the completed picture, along with a smiley face.
If you choose Show file name, the name of the file is displayed. You may need to change the name of the file to get the result that you want. We recommend that you copy any file that you wish to use with a Jumble Fun program to avoid conflicts with other software that may use your graphics.
You can use a speech engine that conforms to the Microsoft SAPI 4 or SAPI 5 standard to read any text that is shown under the finished picture. |
