Adding a language

Sorted! Text can show text in any language that uses an alphabet that reads either left-to-right or right-to-left.

First, you need to ensure that your computer can manage the script you want to use with the Regional and Language Options utility (Start > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options). If you're already using a non-western script, you may have done this already.

Open the Sorted! Text Editor (either from Start > All Programs > Resource > Sorted! Text or by pressing CONTROL + F2 while Sorted! Text is running).

Right-click in the Languages folder and choose New.

A new language

We've created a new folder called Hindi and opened the Font file:

Setting the font

We find that most alphabets are supported by the Unicode fonts found on XP and Windows computers, so we leave the font as Verdana. If you have another font which you prefer, enter the name here. The RightToLeft setting should be 0 for left-to-right alphabets and 1 for right-to-left reading.

Click on the Language file:

If you wish to have any of this text appear on the screen in your selected language, click after any '=' sign, set your keyboard to your chosen language and type in your translation.

We've created a simple wordlist (see Making a Project) by copying and pasting from the internet - you will be able to do much better:
