The TEEM evaluations

It is most effective elements are for small group, or whole class teaching as part of the Literacy Hour. It supports the word level element of the introduction to a lesson and also for a group to work with supported or independently. It allows the teacher access to comprehensive pre-selected word lists, or the ability to create your own and from these to make use of a range of activities to reinforce the children's knowledge and understanding. It is also a very comprehensive resource for quickly accessing appropriate word lists to link in with specific teaching objectives and this, although an offshoot of the software, is very valuable on teacher time.

It is difficult to navigate the CD-ROM to begin with and to ascertain how to make use of your own lists, but after some continued use this becomes easier.

This title supports word level activities within the National Literacy Strategy. It helps to develop word recognition and building skills in a format that is accessible and familiar to many children. It is possible to use it for small group work, or for a whole class. The program is useful because it can generate random lists for children to work with and provide answers to their work immediately. It is possible for the teacher to produce their own word lists that enable customisation of the programs for individual classroom use. There are different activities for each week of the school year, although it is not possible to record an individual's progress through the activities using the program, although there are photocopiable checklists listed in the teachers' book. This program would be best used with a small group of children. It would work either as an activity with children of the same ability, or with children of differing abilities.
