India gained independence from the rule of the British Raj after a very long struggle for freedom. Although India gained independence on August 14e1947, the constitution comes into force on January 26e1950.
This year, India will celebrate its 72n/a Republic Day January 26e. Due to the new traces of the Covid-19 pandemic, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson canceled his visit to India on this Republic Day.

The Constituent Assembly first met in New Delhi on December 9, 1946, in the Constitution Hall which is now the central hall of Parliament.

A drafting committee was appointed to draft the Constitution of India, with Dr BR Ambedkar as chairman.

The Constituent Assembly took almost three years (two years, eleven months and seventeen days to be precise) to complete its historic task of drafting the Constitution of independent India.
